A six year-old girl from Magherafelt, who has had open heart surgery three times, has starred in a national billboard campaign to raise awareness of congenital heart disease and the work of the Children’s Heartbeat Trust.
Little Aimee Brady’s real-life story of heartbreak features in the new awareness campaign for the North.
The south Derry girl’s heart defect – double inlet left ventricle with pulmonary atresia – was detected before she was born during her mum’s 20 week scan.
Just six days after Aimee was born, she underwent her first operation in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
At 18 months she had a second operation, before travelling to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for a third surgery at the age of five.
Aimee is one of seven children who’ll be appearing on billboards, bus stops, buses and social media right across the North over the next few weeks.
