Draperstown entrepreneur says business partnership opens new opportunities for Irish firms in Saudi Arabia

Irish companies expanding into Saudi Arabia are set to benefit from the new technology partnership between procurement specialist Penny AI and SAP Ariba
An entrepreneur from Draperstown who is the Vice President of procurement technology company Penny AI has revealed the company has joined forces with a firm in Saudi Arabia.
Penny AI and SAP Ariba have announced a technology partnership to advance Local Content in Saudi Arabia.
Irish companies expanding into Saudi Arabia are set to benefit from the new technology partnership between procurement specialist Penny AI and SAP Ariba that aims to simplify one of the Kingdom's most important procurement requirements.
The agreement will integrate Penny AI's Local Content platform directly into SAP Ariba, allowing companies operating in Saudi Arabia to track, manage and improve compliance with the Kingdom's Local Content regulations from within their existing procurement systems.
The development comes as increasing numbers of Irish companies pursue opportunities across Saudi Arabia's multi-billion-dollar Vision 2030 investment programme, spanning construction, engineering, healthcare, life sciences, digital technology, manufacturing and professional services.
For businesses competing for government and major private-sector contracts, demonstrating a measurable contribution to the Saudi economy has become an increasingly important factor in winning work.
The new integration enables companies to monitor their Local Content performance continuously rather than relying on manual reporting exercises, helping procurement teams identify opportunities to source more goods and services locally while maintaining compliance.
"Saudi Arabia remains one of the most attractive growth markets for Irish exporters, but success increasingly depends on demonstrating long-term value within the Kingdom's economy," said Henry Joseph-Grant, Vice President of Global Penny AI.
"Our integration with SAP Ariba gives international companies, including Irish businesses already operating in Saudi Arabia or preparing to enter the market, the visibility they need to understand and improve their Local Content performance in real time. That allows organisations to make smarter procurement decisions while supporting Saudi Arabia's localisation ambitions."
The partnership embeds Penny AI's Local Content intelligence within SAP Ariba's procurement platform, allowing procurement teams to measure their Local Content score using live purchasing data and receive guidance on sourcing decisions that align with Saudi regulations.
Mr Grant, who is from Ballinascreen, continued: “The collaboration reflects growing demand from international companies for digital tools that simplify compliance while improving procurement performance.
"Irish firms operating in Saudi need procurement systems that do more than automate purchasing. By integrating Penny AI's Local Content capabilities into SAP Ariba, organisations can embed compliance into everyday procurement aligning with Saudi Arabia's economic transformation."
Saudi Arabia is investing hundreds of billions of dollars through Vision 2030 to diversify its economy beyond oil, creating opportunities for international suppliers across sectors where Irish companies have established expertise.
At the same time, the Kingdom's Local Content framework encourages businesses awarded contracts to maximise spending with Saudi suppliers, manufacturers and service providers.
For Irish firms already supplying Saudi customers, or planning to establish operations in the Kingdom, the ability to monitor Local Content performance throughout the year could provide a competitive advantage when bidding for high-value projects.
The partnership is expected to be particularly relevant to Irish engineering firms, manufacturers, healthcare technology providers, software companies, construction specialists and professional services firms supporting Saudi Arabia's continuing economic transformation.
